Assistant Manager, Maintenance
Job Description
The incumbent manages the maintenance department’s subcontracts for the plant and building auxiliary facilities. He negotiates preventive maintenance contracts with subcontractors and plans interventions in collaboration with the planner, maintenance. The incumbent directs the interventions of subcontractors and performs post-intervention follow-ups when corrective actions are required.
Responsibilities
1. Prepare and implement annual preventive, conditional and predictive maintenance plans involving subcontracting in collaboration with the maintenance team.
2. Negotiate preventive maintenance contracts for auxiliary equipment and the building with subcontractors and service providers.
3. Plan subcontractor visits to the plant according to the availability of production machines in collaboration with the planner, maintenance.
4. Supervise and coordinate the activities of external service providers during plant interventions.
5. Manage the overall subcontracting budget and prepare monthly reports including performance indicators.
6. Document preventive maintenance according to International Standards Organization (ISO) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards.
7. Participate in audits (ISO, SQF, Quality Assurance (QA), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), external customers) and, if applicable, document and implement corrective actions using the Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA) system.
8. Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective measures to avoid recurring failures in collaboration with the project leader, maintenance and reliability.
9. Manage and administer the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, its controls and alarms.
10. Manage the building’s fire protection systems.
11. Perform and monitor service calls to ensure minimal disruption of production activities.
12. Ensures that the building and facilities meet health and safety requirements as well as applicable standards and legislation.
13. Prepare capital requests when required to justify certain maintenance department projects in collaboration with the engineering team.
14. Supervise a team of building technicians and coordinate the completion of work orders using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
15. Perform all other duties as required by the immediate superior.
Qualifications
➢ Bachelor’s degree or Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) in mechanical, industrial, automated production or electrical engineering.
➢ A combination of education, experience, knowledge and skills will be considered.
➢ Five to ten years of relevant experience in a similar position.
➢ Experience in using a CMMS system (Maximo, iMaint, MicroMain, etc.).
➢ Technical knowledge of maintenance methods for mechanical and electrical systems.
➢ Demonstrated knowledge of fire alarm systems and local occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and regulations.
➢ Good knowledge of value-added production concepts, the 5S system as well as ISO and SQF standards.
➢ Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
➢ Bilingualism (French and English) both verbally and in writing is essential.
